At night, the salt closes the circuit.
Didgeridoo, tom-led psychedelic breakbeats, acid counterpoint and recursive arpeggios trace a desert survey grid as condensation, wildlife and abandoned hardware fall into one repeating system.
Salt basin // Night cycle
Years after a remote water-survey grid is decommissioned, its buried cables, black antenna, fractured solar glass and transformer remain in the basin.
After dark, condensation lays a conductive film across the salt crust. Wind enters hollow conduit. Insects occupy the transformer. Animal movement shakes wire and dry metal. Disconnected timing circuits begin exchanging a pulse.
For part of one night, the site behaves like a single distributed organism. The album never decides whether the grid remembered its purpose, the ecosystem formed a temporary intelligence, or the pattern existed only in the listener.
The grid was built to measure the desert. What happens when the desert starts using the grid?
Nocturnal circuit // 10 phases
The sequence follows four movements: dormant material, environmental inheritance, collective circuit and aftercurrent. Each track records a change in the site's temporary state.
Movement 01 // Dormant material
A memory of the basin before measurement and machinery. The present-day pulse gradually intrudes.
Movement 01 // Dormant material
Wind and pressure enter a hollow survey bore. The site appears to take its first continuous breath.
Movement 01 // Dormant material
Salt, wire and environmental movement form the first complete repeating circuit.
Movement 02 // Environmental inheritance
The old sensors report moving water. They are reading the nocturnal conductive film spreading across the salt.
Movement 02 // Environmental inheritance
The dead mast becomes a resonant spine within the local system rather than a connection to somewhere else.
Movement 02 // Environmental inheritance
Animal calls, physical impacts and the grid's timing cycles become inseparable. The network grows more forceful.
Movement 03 // Collective circuit
The pulse reaches fractured solar glass stained by iron dust. The system enters its brightest and most engineered state.
Movement 03 // Collective circuit
The pattern travels as vibration through pipe, wood, metal and bone rather than electricity alone.
Movement 03 // Collective circuit
Every element locks together. For a few minutes, the entire site behaves like one distributed organism.
Movement 04 // Aftercurrent
Dawn opens the circuit. Machines fall silent, but the living rhythm continues without them.
Sonic architecture
Saltwire is instrumental psychedelic trance and breakbeat music built around physical processes rather than a human narrator.
Didgeridoo supplies breath, pressure, drone and melodic architecture. Acid lines trace current through moisture and corrosion. Recursive arpeggios repeat abandoned measurement routines. Synth guitar carries the remaining trace of deliberate human design.
Wildlife is part of the circuit, not decorative ambience. Dry drum attacks, wide delay and tape-saturated analog depth keep the system grounded in impact, distance and material.
01 // Breath
Continuous pressure becomes drone, bass organ, melodic lead and the living structural centre.
02 // Current
Resonant counterlines and repeating arpeggios behave like charge crossing salt, moisture and old circuitry.
03 // Contact
Physical percussion records animal movement, thermal contraction and impact across the abandoned site.
Aftercurrent // Dawn
The conductive film evaporates with the first light. Electronic pulses disappear one by one.
The transformer returns to silence, but the crickets continue the rhythm. Nothing confirms whether the site understood what happened or whether separate events briefly sounded like a single mind.
The grid was abandoned. The pattern was not.
Signal source
Signal Fiction makes electronic music about memory, identity, desire and the shifting boundary between human experience and digital existence.
Each album is shaped around the story it needs to tell, while the questions underneath remain connected.
AI tools support composition, performance and visual development. The lyrics, concepts, narrative design, artistic direction, curation and final decisions remain human-led.
