Almost home

A Balkan disco homecoming by Signal Fiction

10 tracks // 00:36:40 // Parallel Names

A turn learned by watching. A voice across the distance.

Living far from your roots, you recognise something familiar in a movement, a name or a way of welcoming someone. Balkan melodic colours, disco bass and wide synth harmony carry those small recognitions into shared dancefloor pleasure.

The corners meet.
The chair moves closer.

A cloth folds the way someone taught you. A name rests beneath your tongue. A distant voice fills the room while the cup goes cold.

Almost home follows the recognition of family and ancestry inside ordinary actions. A welcome becomes something you offer here. A dance learned by watching returns through your knees. What you carried begins to find a shape among unfamiliar surroundings.

The music draws on Romanian, Bulgarian and Macedonian melodic colours. The lyrics leave countries and family histories unnamed, giving each listener room for their own people, objects and habits of care.

"Almost" leaves space for distance and missing people. Belonging can grow while that distance remains.

What we carry.

Small recognitions gather across ten complete dance tracks: a learned gesture, an inherited name, an invitation, a remembered turn and room for the life around you.

  1. 01

    Warmth under another sky

The window takes a different light. In an unfamiliar room, a small warmth recalls the place where a familiar hand would be.

  2. 02

    In the crease I leave

Hands fold a cloth without thinking. The corners meet, carrying the memory of the person who taught the gesture.

  3. 03

    A name beneath my tongue

A name holds a connection to someone never met. Its first sound stays while its ending wanders across distance and generations.

  4. 04

    A place before you ask

A chair is pulled closer. An inherited habit of welcome becomes an invitation offered to someone here, this evening.

  5. 05

    What the feet know

A turn learned by watching comes back through the knees. Remembered movement becomes immediate, physical pleasure.

  6. 06

    Your morning against my midnight

Two different times of day meet in a familiar voice. The cup goes cold while someone laughs, and for a moment the room is full.

  7. 07

    Where roots bend

Roots take another shape around unfamiliar stones. What was carried can loosen, remain connected and keep growing.

  8. 08

A little of each of us

Different histories gather under one light. The dancefloor grows warm where the distance was.

  9. 09

    The distance loosens

A small object, worn smooth and carried far, turns in the light. Its identity stays open; the connection it holds is private.

  10. 10

    Almost home, here too

The singer hears familiar people in their own voice and makes room for the life around them. The final recognition is "here, too".

Melodies with roots.
Room to dance.

Balkan ornamented melodies lead the album's electronic dance arrangements, supported by moving disco bass, synthwave harmony and melodic-house momentum.

The palette brings together cimbalom, clarinet, accordion, bowed gadulka, breathy kaval, gaida and celebratory brass colours. Their contrasting attacks and phrasing give the instrumental hooks their identity, with synths widening the melodic space.

Sparse English vocals keep the images close: cloth, hands, a chair, a cold cup. Extended instrumental passages give those brief recognitions the scale and pleasure of a club anthem.

A little room.
For the life around me.

The album ends in the present place, with more room for the people and experiences that made the listener.

A voice, a gesture or a tune can hold a connection without making the distance disappear. Homecoming is the growing recognition of belonging in the life being lived.
